What is Drake’s Net Worth?

With a net worth estimated at $250 million, Drake is a multi-talented Canadian actor, producer, and rapper who consistently ranks among the highest-paid entertainers globally. He first made his mark in the entertainment industry as an actor on the popular Canadian series “Degrassi: The Next Generation.” However, it was his music career that propelled him to international fame, starting in 2006 with a stream of successful songs and albums. His inaugural studio album, “Thank Me Later,” debuted at #1 on the hip-hop charts in 2010, marking the beginning of his ongoing success. He has devoted significant time to touring and has participated in numerous music programs and awards shows to expand his fan base.

Since achieving mainstream recognition, Drake’s career earnings have surpassed $430 million, excluding taxes and living expenses.

Between June 2017 and June 2018, he amassed $45 million in earnings, while in 2017 his total income reached $95 million. From June 2018 to June 2019, he earned $75 million, followed by $50 million in the subsequent 12 months. For a comprehensive overview of Drake’s annual earnings, scroll down.

Universal Music Group Contract

During their Q1 earnings conference in May 2022, Universal Music Group announced the renewal of Drake’s contract, establishing a “long-term worldwide partnership.” This agreement encompasses a diverse range of ventures including “recorded music, music publishing, film, television, and brands.” Drake has referenced this contract in some of his lyrics; for instance, he mentions signing a deal that provided him with “360 up front.” Following Universal’s confirmation, interpretations suggest this might indicate an upfront payment of $360 million. Other estimates posit the total worth of the agreement at $400 million or even higher. Notably, prior to the renewal, Drake’s music catalog alone had generated approximately $50 million annually for Universal.

If the estimated value of the deal was indeed $400 million, it is possible that Drake received approximately $200 million upfront after taxes.

Early Life

Aubrey Drake Graham was born on October 24, 1986, in Toronto, Canada. His father, Dennis, was a drummer who collaborated with artists such as Jerry Lee Lewis during his career. Drake’s mother, Sandra, often referred to as Sandi, worked as an English teacher and florist. He received a Jewish education and celebrated a formal Bar Mitzvah.

When Aubrey was five, Sandi and Dennis divorced. His father relocated to Memphis, where he faced several years of incarceration due to drug-related charges. Though Drake stayed with his mother in Toronto, he visited his father in Memphis every summer (when Dennis was not in jail). Drake later characterized his father as absent during his childhood, a claim Dennis strongly disputes, arguing it was exaggerated for commercial gain.

From sixth grade onward, Drake and his mother inhabited a portion of a two-story townhouse in an affluent area named Forest Hill. Their living arrangement was modest, as finances were quite constrained.

While attending Forest Hill Collegiate Institute, Drake discovered his passion for both acting and music. He later enrolled at Vaughan Road Academy, where he faced bullying due to his bi-racial heritage and religious background. He took a temporary break from school but ultimately graduated in 2012.

Degrassi

At the age of 15, a family friend who worked as an acting agent assisted Drake in securing a role on the enduring Canadian teen drama “Degrassi: The Next Generation.” Within the series, he portrayed Jimmy Brooks, a talented basketball player who…disabled after being shot by a classmate. He was part of the cast from seasons 1 to 7, also making guest appearances in 2008.

During his time on Degrassi, Drake’s mother fell ill and was unable to work. For several years, his Degrassi paycheck was their sole source of income. At that time, his annual earnings from the show were $50,000, which amounted to approximately $2000 monthly after taxes. He later recounted this period as follows:

My mother was very sick. We were very poor, like broke. The only money I had coming in was off of Canadian TV.

Music Career

In February 2005, he put out his inaugural mixtape, “Room for Improvement,” via his website and official MySpace page, managing to sell over 6,000 copies directly. The following year, he issued his second mixtape titled “Comeback Season.” This mixtape was released through his newly established label, October’s Very Own (also known as OVO Records). It featured what would become an underground hit single named “Replacement Girl.” The song’s music video was the first ever from an unsigned Canadian rapper to be showcased on BET. One iteration of the song included a sample from “Man of the Year” by Brisco, Flo Rida, and Lil Wayne.

Jas Prince, a Houston-based producer and founder of Rap-A-Lot Records, heard the single and shared it with Lil Wayne. Impressed, Lil Wayne reached out to Drake, inviting him to join him on his Tha Carter III tour in Houston. As the tour moved forward, they collaborated on several tracks, including “Brand New,” “Forever,” and “Ransom.”

Young Money Entertainment

Contrary to what one might think, Drake had not yet signed with Wayne’s record label at this time. In 2009, he released his third mixtape, “So Far Gone,” which was made available for free download on his OVO website. This mixtape included features from artists like Lil Wayne, Lloyd, Trey Songz, Omarion, and Bun B. Within the first hour, it was downloaded 2,000 times and later earned Gold certification from the RIAA, peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was eventually released as an EP, debuting at #6 on the Billboard 200 and winning the 2010 Juno Award for Rap Recording of the Year.

Now a sought-after independent artist, Drake found himself in high demand within the music industry, leading to a bidding war among various labels eager to sign him. This frenzy has been referred to as “the biggest bidding war in music history,” though this claim remains unverified.

On June 29, 2009, Drake finalized a contract with Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment. This record deal was a joint venture that involved Young Money and its parent company, Cash Money, with Universal Music handling distribution.

YOLO Estate

Although originally from Canada, Drake began referring to Hidden Hills, California, as home in 2012 after purchasing a lavish mansion for $7.7 million in cash from the former owner of Los Angeles’ Saddle Ranch Bar. Known as the YOLO Estate, this property consists of multiple residences, including a main house that spans 12,000 square feet and a separate 2,000-square-foot party house. The estate boasts equestrian stables, a movie theater capable of seating 25, a full-sized basketball court, a sand volleyball court, and one of Southern California’s largest private pools. This lagoon-style pool surrounds the house and features several waterfalls, a swim-up bar, an 80-foot water slide, and a grotto reminiscent of the Playboy mansion.

In a Rolling Stone interview, Drake shared that he had admired this mansion for years after coming across it while searching for “craziest residential swimming pools.” He even set a photo of the pool as the backdrop on his computer for years to motivate himself. Initially listed for $27 million in 2009, the previous owner found themselves in a financial bind by 2012, leading to Drake purchasing the property for $7.7 million.

In 2015, he further expanded his holdings by acquiring the adjacent 1.6-acre estate for $2.8 million. In 2018, he extended the property…

Once again, he spent $4.5 million to purchase another neighboring house, bringing his private estate to a total of 6.7 acres of connected property at the end of a cul-de-sac, representing an expenditure of $15 million in real estate acquisitions alone.

In March 2022, Drake put the YOLO Estate on the market for $22.7 million, while a buyer had the possibility of acquiring the primary mansion for $14.8 million.

In April 2022, NFL player Matthew Stafford made headlines by paying $11 million—$3.6 million over the asking price—for two of the three estates that were once part of the YOLO Estate. Notably, Matthew’s purchases did not include the primary “YOLO” mansion. Later, in July 2022, another buyer acquired the third parcel for $12 million.

Take a look at this video showcasing the complete 3-estate property:

Toronto Mansion

Drake invested $6.7 million in 2016 to acquire a plot of land in a suburban Toronto area known as The Bridle Path. He subsequently built an expansive 50,000-square-foot mansion on the two-acre lot, featuring a 10-car garage, a regulation-size NBA basketball court, a gym, an awards room, and much more. The master bedroom alone measures 3,200 square feet.

Additionally, he owns a condominium in downtown Toronto.

$90 Million Beverly Hills Mansion

On March 8, 2022, reports confirmed that Drake finalized the purchase of a 20-acre Beverly Hills estate formerly owned by British singer Robbie Williams for $75 million, conducted as an off-market transaction. Prior to Robbie Williams, the property was owned by Armand Marciano, co-founder of the Guess? clothing brand. Through a corporate entity named 11Kip, LLC, Drake acquired the home with a $52.5 million mortgage from Bank of America, which meant he made a cash down payment of $22.5 million, precisely 30%.

Just a little over a year after acquiring the Beverly Hills estate for $75 million, Drake listed the property for $88 million in May 2023. He relisted it at the same price in May 2024. Take a virtual tour of Drake’s Beverly Hills mansion:

300+ Acre Texas Estate

In October 2023, Drake made a $15 million investment in a 313-acre property previously known as The Inn at Dos Brisas, which has since been renamed Dos Brisas Ranch. Originally a private compound for a wealthy family, the property was transformed into a resort in 2004. At its peak, The Inn at Dos Brisas thrived, earning numerous prestigious accolades.

Unfortunately, like many hospitality ventures, The Inn suffered significantly due to the impacts of COVID and permanently closed its doors in 2022. The estate became available on the market in April 2022 for $17.5 million, dropping to $15 million by May 2023, which is when Drake ultimately purchased it for an undisclosed amount exceeding $10 million. Air Drake Private Jet

In May 2019, Drake showcased his newly-acquired Boeing 767 private jet, affectionately named and painted “Air Drake,” in an Instagram video. The rapper expressed his pride in owning the jet outright, clarifying that there are “no rental, no timeshare, no co-owners.”

A private jet of comparable model and quality would be valued at approximately $75 – $100 million.

Milestones in Drake’s Net Worth

In November 2009, we first included Drake in Celebrity Net Worth with an estimated net worth of $1 million, which he had achieved shortly after signing with Lil Wayne’s Young Money. By 2012, his net worth reached $25 million. In 2014, it exceeded $45 million, and by late 2016, he surpassed $80 million for the first time. Following extraordinary earnings of nearly $100 million in 2017, he easily crossed the $100 million mark by early 2018. In May 2019, he first broke the $150 million threshold.

Drake’s Business Endeavors

Throughout the years, Drake has endorsed several major brands, most notably including Sprite, Burger King, Whataburger, Nike, and Apple. Upon the launch of Apple Music, he entered into a $19 million exclusivity agreement, granting Apple the rights to be the exclusive home for all of Drake’s upcoming solo releases.

In 2012, he established his own record label, OVO Sound, which is distributed by Warner Bros. Records. Besides Drake, OVO Sound currently represents artists like PartyNextDoor, Majid Jordan, and Kash Doll, along with producers such as Boi-1da, Future the Prince, Mike Zombie, and others.

Drake also serves as the “global ambassador” for the Toronto Raptors, hosting an annual Drake Night in collaboration with the team.

He introduced his bourbon-based whiskey brand, Virginia Black, in 2016, selling 4,000 bottles during its first week. Later that same year, an additional 30,000 units were shipped by the company.

Tours and Performances

Drake’s inaugural headlining tour was the “Away From Home Tour” in 2010. He went on to complete five more headlining tours through 2019, in addition to co-headlining four tours, including a 2018 tour alongside the rap group Migos.

His “Summer Sixteen Tour” in 2016 became the highest-grossing hip-hop tour at that time, achieving $84.3 million over 54 shows, averaging $1.56 million per concert. The Migos co-headlining tour in 2018 surpassed this record with $80 million over 43 dates, averaging $1.86 million per concert.

Every summer, he hosts a festival called “OVO Fest” in Toronto that sells out quickly.

Drake also maintains an ongoing residency at XS Nightclub in Las Vegas, allowing him to earn approximately $500,000 for a single appearance. He currently makes over $2 million for a formal concert.

Drake’s Personal Life

Over the years, Drake has been involved in several high-profile relationships, including an on-and-off romance with Rihanna from 2009 to 2016. He later referred to her as “the woman I’ve been in love with since I was 22 years old.

In October 2017, he welcomed his son Adonis with French model/actress/artist Sophie Brussaux, although Drake did not confirm his fatherhood until 2018.
